Bookmarks...........And Needles That Needle Us, Lol

Well I signed up for a bookmark exchange on one of my Yahoo groups. The group is I Love Cross Stitch. My partner was Tara from Canada. She and I are both fairly new and we actually were exchanging with each other. I got the bookmark she was to send me a few days ago, I would have blogged sooner about it but life got in the way\.. To my delight, there were 2 bookmarks in the package. I love them both. Here's a picture of the two of them together:

Thank you so much Tara. The day your package arrived made my day.

Now, on to the second part of my title. Today while helping my mom with her CQ Round Robins, I stepped on a needle and half broke off in my right baby toe. :-(. So, off to the urgent care for mom and I. We got there and waited in the lobby for about 40 minutes. We went back to the room that the nurse took us to, and the doctor came in fairly quickly. He started to poke and prod me with his fingers and boy did he hit me just right at one point. He said he could definitely feel something in there. He shot me up 3 times with Lidocane to numb me up. That was nice, no pain after about two minutes. Then he had the X-ray technician come in and wheel me away to X-ray. She took three pictures and I laughingly asked her after the third, "Is there a foreign object in my foot?" She laughed with me and said, "Yes, definitely." She then wheeled me back to the room my mom was in and I waited for the doctor for a few minutes.

The doctor came back in and said there was a needle in my foot. He then proceeded to poke and prod me yet again :-o. However, since I was numb all I could feel was the pressure no pain. Yeehaw. He began to prep the area to make a small incision into the top of my foot. He gathered his tools, covered my foot with some blankets, and left only the area to be cut exposed. He sliced me open, not feeling it I didn't care. He then began to maneuver the needle part to where he could see it and clasp it with the clamp. He managed to get the needle out of me, boy am I glad he did. While he was pulling the needle out the nurse was giving me a Tetanus Shot. Here is a picture of the needle that was in me:

The part on the right is the part that was in me. It's amazing, it was only in me for roughly 2 hours but it changed colors quickly. We brought it home to show my nieces and nephew as to why they need to be careful in this house and not shuffle their feet.

My mom figures the only reason that the needle was on the floor is because she had broken the eye of a needle and thrown it away. When my dad took the trash out on our trash day he dumped their bedroom trash. Unbeknownst to him and everyone else, that needle missed the trash bag and landed on their floor. Then it landed in my foot. But I'm glad I went to urgent care to take care of it. I highly doubt that I would be walking on my right foot now if I hadn't.

Now we're trying to figure out a good way to dispose of needles. Any ideas?

Well, I think that's all. Until next time.

Keep On Stitchin'....

Ouch! Sounds awful. Hope the foot is healing well. I used to put dead needles in the plastic containers that camera film came in (pre- digicam days). The containers that diabetic testing strips come in are even better, 'cos they're taller.
Lovely bookmarks - love the pretty trims round the edges. :0)

Ouch. Ouch. OUCH! My foot hurts in sympathy!

Needles and razorblades I tape to a sheet of paper and fold the paper up around them. I can't stand the thought of someone pushing the trash to compact it and one going through their hand.

OYE Moon that sounded painful even if you could not feel it then!!! Yes I've done that too but it did not break off in my foot so like Cobi could remove it.

As for disposing of needles I use one of my prescription bottle (hard to open type) and store all pins and needles and even razor blade in there and as yet have not disposed of it - not full. Apparently you can check with medical places to dispose of such safely.
